Mr. Stephen L. Sewell, 71, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at his residence in Lebanon.
He was born on July 7, 1941 in Clinton, the son of the now late Lester Floyd and Vera Naomi (Gillogly) Sewell.
Reared and educated in Waveland, Mr. Sewell graduated from Waveland High School in 1959. He moved to Indianapolis in 1969, and then moved to Lebanon in 1972, where he had been a resident since.
He was first married to Judith Ann (Haase) Sewell, and she passed away. He married Laurita Jayne (Garrett) Sewell on March 19, 1972, in Indianapolis. Mrs. Sewell survives.
For many years, Steve was self employed as a general contractor for Sewell Construction. He also worked in maintenance at CrownPointe of Lebanon for five years.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed collecting tools and John Deere memorabilia. He served in many capacities at the churches he attended. He was a deacon and an elder at North Liberty Christian Church, and he served as a Sunday school teacher at Dover Christian Church. He was a member of Dover Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laurita J. Sewell of Lebanon; four children, Mr. Marty Sewell and wife Lori of Franklin, Mrs. Stephanie Bushman and husband Rick of Lebanon, Mrs. Kelly Utsler and husband Jeff of Brownsburg, and Mr. Scott Sewell and fiancée Danielle of Lebanon; two brothers, Mr. Leonard Sewell and wife Delores of Crawfordsville, and Mr. Daniel Sewell and wife Oma of New Market; eight grandchildren, Heather, Whitney, Joshua, Courtney, Brandy, Hannah, Erin, and Connor; and four great-grandchildren, Ben, Lilly, Aaliyah, and Tinley.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Steve was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Lynn Sewell.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Dover Christian Church, 955 North State Road 75, in Dover.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 14, at Dover Christian Church, with the Rev. Jerry Imes, officiating.
Interment will follow at North Liberty Cemetery in Indianapolis.
