Garland L. Witsman, 76, of McCordsville, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013 after a short illness. He was born on May 18, 1937, in Knox County, Indiana as the son of Charles A. and Helen Marie (Davis) Witsman. He graduated from Decker Chapel High School in Knox County. Garland served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Norma J. Phillips on December 11, 1964 in St. Louis, Mo.

He worked for Brandt Construction as a carpenter for more than 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and he enjoyed woodworking and making furniture, tropical fish aquariums, and riding motorcycles and waterskiing earlier in his life.

Surviving him are his wife Norma Witsman of McCordsville; daughter, Christina Marie (Robby Layman) Myers of Fortville; son, Mark Justin (Catherine) Witsman of McCordsville; three grandchildren; Seth, Madeleine, and Isaac; two sisters, Joy Dismang of Pacific, Mo., and Glenna Johnson of Jack, Ala.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Marie Witsman; and his sister, Charlena Marie Malone.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 17, from noon until 2 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Fortville. A funeral service will be held directly following the visiting hours, beginning at 2 p.m,  Pastor Russ Jarvis will officiate.
