---- — Mr. David Cecil Kouns Jr., 79, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Hickory Creek at Lebanon. David was born May 1, 1934, in Boone County, a son of the now late David Cecil Kouns Sr. and Laoma Ruth (Osborn) Kouns. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1952. Following school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably during the Korean War. On Sept. 30, 1957, he married Sybil S. Nance, in Elizaville. Mrs. Kouns survives. David was an employee of the Indianapolis International Airport, where he had been an electronic technician for the FAA for 27 years. He was a lifelong resident of Boone County with the exception of a few years, 1989 to 2006, when he lived in Avon Park, Fla. He dedicated his life to his family, and loved to care for them. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and yard work. David obtained his commercial pilot’s license and enjoyed flying personal aircraft, as well as building and flying model airplanes. Survivors include his wife, Sybil Kouns of Lebanon; two daughters, Sabrina S. DeVol of Indianapolis and Brenda K. (Richard) Weber of Lebanon; two brothers, Tom (Mary) Kouns and Jim (Karla) Kouns, all of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Cleora J. Kouns of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren, Demetri (Jodi) DeVol, Damien (Jessica) DeVol, Drake DeVol, Whitney (Mike) Phelps, Zachary Weber and Elijah Weber; six great-grandchildren, Jocelyn DeVol, Ethan DeVol, Alexander DeVol, Dylan DeVol, Dakoda DeVol and Corbin DeVol; and several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Danny L. Kouns Sr.; and a granddaughter, Ali Marie Weber. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Brad Miller officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
