Marion E. Newkirk

Marion E. Newkirk, 71, of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014.

He was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Lebanon, and was the son of the now late Lloyd M. Newkirk and Helen Walker Newkirk.

Marion worked at R.R. Donnelley for 30 years, relocating his family from Crawfordsville, to Harrisonburg in 1980. Following his retirement from R.R. Donnelley in 1992, Marion owned and operated Custom Handbook Binding in Dayton, Va., until early this year.

He was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends, golfing, fishing, woodworking, and watching NASCAR on Sunday.

Marion is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheryl Newkirk; his children, Tammy Newkirk of Gordonsville, Va., Todd (Cereta) Newkirk, of Harrisonburg and Travis Newkirk of Bedford, Va.; two grandchildren, Madeline Newkirk and Nicole Curry; a brother, Herschel (Teresa) Newkirk, and a sister, Janet (Don) Armbruster, all of Crawfordsville; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 10, at Kyger Funeral Home, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
