Anna L. Grimes

Heaven received a new angel on Sunday, June 8, 2014, when Anna Louise Grimes, 77, of Lebanon, passed away at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. She was born in Casey County, Ky., on Oct. 19, 1936, a daughter of the now late Hurshel and Dorothy Mae (Leigh) Hicks.

Anna was first married to Roy Calvin Poe in 1953; they divorced. On Jan. 14, 1961, she was married to William Darrell Grimes in Lizton. Mr. Grimes passed away on Aug. 10, 2004.

She was raised and educated in Liberty and Campbellsville, Ky. At the age of 14, she and her family moved to Hendricks County, where she attended Lizton High School.

Anna worked at Stewart Warner during the Vietnam War. For a total of 20 years, she worked as a CNA and a QMA at Oak Park Manor and English Nursing Home, retiring in 1981.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her pets. In her free time she like to crochet.

Survivors include five children, Barbara (Levi) Engle and Russell Poe, all of Lebanon, Darrell (Angel) Grimes of Jamestown, Jessica Britt of Lebanon and Timothy (Chris) Grimes of Indianapolis; sister, Juda (Robert) Randall of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, Joshua (companion, Ashley Nealy) Williams, Alishia (companion, Chris Cope) Huff, Eric Duncan, Garrett Grimes and Morgan Grimes, all of Indianapolis; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexis Huff, Aliza Huff, Alex Huff, Joshua Williams Jr., Makiah McDaniel, Laila Williams and Delaney Williams, all of Indianapolis.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; two brothers, Clinton D. Hicks and Michael C. Hicks; and a sister, Rhetas Griffith.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Merv McNair officiating. Interment will follow services at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
