Robert B. Evans

Mr. Robert Blair Evans, 87, of Thorntown, Ind., and Ocoee, Fla., passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

Mr. Evans was born in Morrisdale, Pa., on June 17, 1926, one of 13 children, to the now late Henry and Olive (Hubler) Evans.

He was first married to Wilma Evans, she preceded him in death in 1985.

On April 24, 1987, Bob was married to Helen Mae (Stevens) Mahoy in Ocoee. She survives.

Mr. Evans was raised and educated in Pennsylvania. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Army and served his country honorably in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He re-enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Alaska for 18 months.

Following his time in the service, he moved to Crawfordsville, and worked for Allison Transmission, a division of General Motors Corporation, in Indianapolis. In 1957, he moved to Ocoee, where he had since resided with the exception of the summers spent in Thorntown.

He retired from Walt Disney World after 17 years as a mechanic for the Disney vehicles, and was a member of the Golden Ears Club.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. and Mrs. Evans enjoyed their winters in Florida and their summers in Indiana.

Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Evans of Thorntown and Ocoee; two children, Theresa (Louis) Sabat of Ocoee, and Robert E. Evans of Kissimmee, Fla.; three stepchildren, Vicki Mahoy of Ocoee, Scott Mahoy of Winter Garden, Fla., and Kelly (Lisa) Mahoy of Thorntown; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma McKenzie of Brownsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and 11 siblings.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Ocoee.

Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, is handling the arrangement for cremation.
