Betty J. Delong

Heaven received a new angel on June 14, 2014, when Betty Jean Delong, 90, of Lebanon, passed away at home, with her husband, Robert “Bob” Delong, and caregivers, Lynda Albright and Teresa Smith, by her side.

Betty was born April 1, 1924, in Boone County, the daughter of the now late Guy and Verlie (Quick) Allen.

She was first married to Marvin Hickson, who passed away in 1968. On March 23, 1973, she was married to Robert “Bob” Delong, in Lebanon. Mr. Delong survives.

Betty was raised and educated in Boone County, and graduated from Kirklin High School in 1942. She attended Business College in Indianapolis following high school.

She worked at the Boone County Bank, and then went to work for ASCS office in Lebanon. She worked there for 28 years, retiring in 1985. She received several awards for her work with ASCS.

She was a devoted wife and mother of three. She loved to travel, fish and work on various crafts.

She was a member of First Community Church in Lebanon.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Delong of Lebanon; son, Marvin Randall Hickson of New Whiteland; son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Gordon Bardos of Sun City, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and four nieces.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband; a son, Gary Alan Hickson; a daughter, Tamara Sue (Hickson) Bardos; and three brothers, Alvin Allen, Wayne Allen and Charles “Ben” Allen.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Ron Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Wright Bethel Cemetery in Waugh.
