Ralph 'John' Asbury

Mr. Ralph “John” Asbury Jr., 72, of Thorntown, passed away June 18, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

John was born April 8, 1942, in Williamsport, a son of the now late Ralph and Dorothy (Bannon) Asbury. He graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1960. Following graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lake Champlain. He was on board for the recovery of the Freedom 7 Space Mission astronauts.

John worked for various companies before retiring from Relizon. After his retirement he worked with the grounds crew at Ulen Country Club. He loved tinkering around in his barn. Most of all he loved his family and friends.

Survivors include his children: Andrea (Tim) Hester of Zionsville and John (Nikki) Asbury of Lebanon; grandchildren: Megan Hester, James “Drew” Hester, Cole Asbury and Hannah Asbury; sisters: Karen McEntire, Judy Gray, Billie (Dick) Petro and Virginia (Estel) Petro; brother-in-law, CV White; and close family friends he adored, Mike, Lisa, John Michael and Reagan Harlos. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Charles Asbury, Wanda Mills and Donna White.

Family and friends will gather Friday, June 20, for visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. and services will be held Saturday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. John will be laid to rest at West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon.
