Paul E. Tinkle

Paul E. Tinkle, 72, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his residence.Paul was born Sept. 7, 1941, in Beech Grove, to H. Samuel and Arvetta L. (Kinnick) Tinkle. He received his High School Diploma from Center Grove High School in 1959.He married Francis (Smithey) Tinkle on June 29, 1960, by the Justice of the Peace in Johnson County. On their 50th wedding anniversary, they celebrated a renewal of their wedding vows, given by their children. He and his wife have had a residence in Ocala, Fla., since January 2011.Paul worked for Mac Fehsenfeld as the manager of Thoroughbred Racing Operations for 38 years in Brownsburg. He was a member of the board of directors for the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (ITOBA) since 2004. He was an active member of the Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Development Advisory Committee since Jan. 1, 2011. He took high honor when he was personally asked to serve on the committee by then-Governor Mitch Daniels. Paul was well-respected within the horse racing community. He never met a stranger, was kind-hearted, and would always go out of his way to help someone, even if they didn’t ask.Survivors include his wife, Francis (Smithey) Tinkle of Lebanon; his sons, Dwayne (Sally) Tinkle of Lebanon, Todd (Lisa) Tinkle of Mooresville and Thomas (Marcie) Tinkle of Rockville; his daughters, Marcia (Jerry) Freeman of Lebanon, Angela (Fritz) Klooz of Avon and Denise (James) Crickmore of Greenwood; his father, H. Samuel Tinkle, and stepmother, Mary Tinkle, of Greenwood; 14 siblings, Phil (Elaine) Tinkle of Greenwood, Pricilla (Bob-deceased) Dashiel of Greenwood, Peggy (Bob) Harold of Greenwood, Pam (Dave) Harold of Greenwood, Pete (Sandy-deceased) Tinkle of Mooresville, Pat (Wilma) Tinkle of Bargersville, Portia (Larry) Hughes of Bargersville, Perry (Susie) Tinkle of Greenwood, Sam (Nancy) Tinkle Jr. of Bargersville, Trish (Bruce) Jones of Whiteland, Paulette (Jack) Lott of Greenwood, Preston Tinkle of Franklin, Pravin (Julie) Tinkle of Franklin and Presley (Julia) Tinkle of Whiteland; and 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his mother, Arvetta L. (Kinnick) Tinkle; and a sister, Penny Tinkle.Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (US 31), Franklin. A service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, July 19, at Indiana Grand Racing, 4300 N.
