---- — Nancy Amelia Nay, 66, passed away on July 11, 2013. She collapsed and died while walking on the beach outside her new residence in North Reddington Beach, Fla.
Nancy had moved to Florida just three months ago from Lebanon, where she had resided for 25 years, and waged a lengthy battle with cancer. She had previously lived in Indianapolis, where she was employed for several years at United Parcel Service, and briefly in Bloomington, where she was employed in the Architectural Department of Indiana University.
She was born Dec. 19, 1946, in Indianapolis, the daughter of the now late Jack L. and Jane Masters Mitchell, who resided in Boone County in their latter years. She graduated from Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis, in 1964, and then attended Butler University where she studied interior decoration, a profession she practiced independently throughout her life.
She was married on Oct. 2, 1965, to Larry Alan Nay, and they later divorced. She is survived by their two children, Brandon Alan Nay and Dyan Amelia (Steve) Marshall of Lebanon, as well as grandchildren, Cheyenne, Michaela and Bryce Marshall.
While in Lebanon, Nancy was a volunteer for the Boone County Cancer Society, Historical Society and Humane Society, and any donations to those organizations in her memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Other survivors include brothers, Rick (Julie) Mitchell of Tampa and Kevin (Nikki) Mitchell of Fayette; and sisters, Linda (David) Westbrook of Noblesville and MaryLou (Kenny) Allen of Thorntown; as well as several nephews and nieces.
Arrangements have been handled by Florida Direct Cremation in St. Petersburg, and private family services will be conducted on the Gulf Coast.
