Mrs. Shirley Jean Ihnen, 60, of Lebanon, passed on to her eternal home, Sunday, March 24, 2013, surrounded by her family at home.
Shirley was born July 19, 1952, in Indianapolis, the only child of the late C.B. and Lora Ann (Boles) Stone. Raised in Indianapolis, she graduated from Northwest High School in 1970. She studied at Parkland Community College in Champaign, Ill., and received an associate degree in paralegal studies from the Department of Justice, Office of Legal Studies at Columbia University.
She married Randy L. Ihnen in Flatville, Ill., on Aug. 31, 1975. Mr. Ihnen survives. For a period of time, the Ihnen family lived in Rantoul, Ill., before moving to Lebanon in 1989.
Shirley worked for 24 years for the Department of Agriculture Rural Development and the Department of Defense, and eight years with the United States Attorney General’s Office in Indianapolis, before retiring in 2004 — a total of 32 years of civil service.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon. Shirley was also an active member of the Moose Lodge and a strong supporter of Mooseheart Child City and Moosehaven Senior Community. She held many different leadership positions and her credentials include the Academy of Friendship, Star Recorder and College of Regent’s degree.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was, despite her diminutive stature, a foundation the family could lean on. Her hobbies centered around her grandchildren, her pets and helping other people, including her husband.
Survivors include her husband, Randy L. Ihnen of Lebanon; two children, Travis (Cherie) Ihnen of Zionsville and Robin (Tim) Neuman of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Emery Rose Ihnen, Eli James Ihnen and Avery Anne Neuman.
