Billy Joe Wingate

Billy Joe Wingate, 78, formerly of Kokomo, passed away July 22, 2013, in Lebanon. Mr. Wingate had returned to Lebanon in 2007 after suffering a brief illness to be with his family.

Billy was born May 27, 1935, in Darlington, to the now late Ottis A. and Helen Marie (Johnson) Wingate. He graduated from Darlington High School in 1953. The Wingate family were farmers and owned and operated a restaurant in Thorntown.

In 1957 Billy served an apprenticeship indenture with the Chrysler Corporation in Indianapolis; in 1962 he took full-time employment as a Machine Journeyman with Delco Electronics in Kokomo until retiring in 1999.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Conklin-Hale of Lebanon; son, David Wingate of Indianapolis; and three granddaughters, Farrah (Wingate) Westerfield of Tennessee, Candice N. Conklin and Kerri (Wingate) Goodnight of Lebanon. Also surviving are sisters, Phyllis Asher and Sue Ann Thomas of Rockville, and brother, James E. Wingate of Canton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles and Carroll Wayne.

Family and friends will gather Monday, July 29, for visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Mr. Wingate will be laid to rest at Plainview Cemetery in Colfax.
