Richard Lee “Yogi” McPeak

Mr. Richard Lee “Yogi” McPeak, 80, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation at Parkwood in Lebanon.

Mr. McPeak was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Hendricks County. He was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Catherine (Wethington) McPeak.

Reared and educated in Boone County, he graduated from Perry Central High School in 1951.  Following school, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country honorably until 1954.

Mr. McPeak married Shirley Jean Dewey on June 11, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. McPeak survives.

He worked for Rock Island Refinery for 34 years, retiring in 1992.

Mr. McPeak was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A sports fan, he enjoyed playing the game of baseball, golfing and watching NASCAR.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Legion in Lebanon and the V.F.W. of Lebanon.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. McPeak of Lebanon; three sons, R. Patrick (Pamela) McPeak of Thorntown, Stephen F. (Yvette) McPeak and Joseph C. (companion, Nancy Dougherty) McPeak, all of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Zachary Lee McPeak, Natoshia (Stuart) Beranek, Cierra (fiancé, Trent Richardson) McPeak, Chase McPeak and Chelsea (Tom) Farlow; four great-grandchildren, Carter Farlow, Aiden Beranek, Troy Beranek and Weston Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald McPeak, James McPeak and Ernest McPeak.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Timothy Kroeger officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
