Mr. Lester Fay Martin Sr., 78, of Lebanon, born Aug. 30, 1935, went home to be with his Lord Thursday, April 24, 2014, with his wife, Nellie, by his side at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.
Lester was the son of Lester and Marguerite (Snow) Martin, both deceased. He graduated from Shadeland High School in Tippecanoe County and went on to attend Purdue University.
He was first married to Sandra Townsley; they were divorced. He then married Nellie (Deane) Alford in 1969 in Lebanon.
Lester was employed at several factories in Lafayette in his younger years, as well as building pole barns with his father and brother. In 1963 he was employed by Commercial Filters in Lebanon, and retired from there in 1991. He then started his own electrical business, Martin’s Fix-It Electric, and operated it through 2012, at which time he retired again.
He enjoyed sports, having played softball as an adult, and golf and bowling. He was an avid bowler, reaching his goal to bowl in the International Tournament for 25 years, but was unable to accomplish his goal to bowl for 50 consecutive years overall. He was a member of the Lebanon Bowling Hall of Fame.
Lester was a member of the Lebanon Fraternal Order of Eagles and Lebanon Moose for many years.
He was a dedicated family man. He took an interest in the activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved seeing all of them.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Martin of Lebanon; three sons, Lester F. (Penny) Martin Jr. of Lebanon, and Chris (Carolyn) Martin and Jeff (Angie) Deane, all of Frankfort; four daughters, Leora (Rich) Kautzman of Montana, Tammy (John) Stultz of Frankfort, and Jeanette Eck and Teresa Ellis, both of Lebanon; brother, Steve (Sandy) Martin of Lebanon; sister, Judy Hogreffe of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren, Becky (Brian) Cross, Stephen (Stoney) Martin, Leslie (Bret) Hine, Brad (Amber) Martin, Amber Cox, Alisha Martin, Alea Martin, Lynzi (Deane) Walker, Jennifer (Yerke) Ashley, Michael (companion, Elisha Lee) Yerke, Ashley Baldwin, Nick Baldwin, Jeremy Wyant, Daniel Wyant and Travis Wyant; two stepgrandchildren, Josh Stultz and Courtney (Stultz) Hilton and husband, Billy; 14 great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Vernon, Robbie and Evan Hine, Lucas and Katie Martin, Phoenix Echols, Briana and John Eakers, Darius Walker, Matthew Yerke, Jeffery Baldwin, Madyson Grace, Caydon and Ryan Wyant; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Adalyn Hilton.
