Donald E. Gipson

Donald E. Gipson, 79, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.

Born April 15, 1935, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of Wilbur and Irene (Dunha) Gipson. He was a 1954 graduate of Sheridan High School.

Donald retired from Edward Rose of Indiana, where he had worked in maintenance for 12 years. He worked in home construction for Risse Builders of Frankfort for a short time. He also worked for over 20 years in the food industry, as a produce manager for Kroger and Marsh.

He loved woodworking, and growing flowers and vegetables in his garden. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. He also loved to travel, especially to the Grand Canyon, and was an avid bird watcher.

Donald is survived by his wife, Alice J. (Miller) Gipson. They were married on April 14, 1956. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Allan (Valerie) Gipson of Sheridan, Danny (Shari) Gipson of Carmel and Donald (Lisa) Gipson of Sheridan; two daughters, Donna Gipson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Karen (Rodger) Hammack of Sheridan; two sisters, Waneta (Otto) Linn and Beverly (Ted) Beck, both of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his pride and joy, his dog, Cuddles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter Gipson.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the funeral home, with Pastor Carol Fritz officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Fishers.

Memorial contributions may be presented to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
