Edwin M. Crum

Edwin M. Crum, 98, a lifelong Beard, Ind., resident, passed away Thursday, May 01, 2014, in the Wesley Manor Health Care Center, Frankfort.

Ed was born Sept. 18, 1915, in Clinton County, to the now late Earl and Bessie (Cox) Crum. He was a 1935 graduate of Michigantown High School.

He married Nova Kate Pickering on Sept. 12, 1939, and she preceded him in death on March 20, 1974. He then married Evelyn McQuinn Stroup in April 1975, and she passed away on May 29, 1999.

Ed was a lifetime farmer and had previously worked at Schlosser’s Dairy in Frankfort, Fairfield in Lafayette, Curtis Wright in Indianapolis and at Stellite in Kokomo, from 1960 to 1975.

His memberships included the Hopewell United Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong member, served as a lay leader in the church and was a past Sunday school superintendent; Beard Masonic Lodge F&AM #641, 75-year member, past master, past patron Beard O.E.S, Scottish Rite and York Rite in Indianapolis and the Michigantown Lions Club.

He is survived by one son, Phil H. (Gloria) Crum of McAllen, Texas; two daughters, Shirley (Larry) Abbott of Zionsville and Nancy (Bob) Kehrer of Rural Frankfort; three brothers, Wayne (Wilma) Crum of rural Frankfort, Dick Crum of Michigantown and Max Crum of rural Frankfort; one sister, Dorothy Beets of Wesley Manor in Frankfort; and five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Pickering, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Friends may visit from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4, with Masonic services at 5 p.m., at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. An additional hour of calling will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Wesley Manor Chapel, 1555 N. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wesley Manor. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Cemetery Association or the Wesley Manor Employee Benefit Fund.
