Gaynelle J. Caldwell

Mrs. Gaynelle Juanita Caldwell, 95, of Lebanon, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

Mrs. Caldwell was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Lebanon, a daughter of the now late Carl Denver and Esther Pearl (Essex) Engledow.A lifelong resident of Boone County, Mrs. Caldwell graduated from Whitestown High School in 1937.

On April 30, 1937, she was married to Ora I. Caldwell in Whitestown. Mr. Caldwell passed away on Jan. 7, 1979.

She was a devoted homemaker and, for a period of time, had worked as a secretary at Perry-Worth Elementary School and Parkwood Nursing Home in Lebanon. For many years, she worked as a volunteer at Witham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Caldwell served as an active member of the Whitestown Baptist Church, where she held the position of youth choir director. After moving to Lebanon, she sang with the choir of the First Baptist Church and served on the music committee. She was an accomplished violinist and enjoyed teaching young children the intricacies of playing the fine instrument. In addition, Mrs. Caldwell was a member of the Thorntown Heritage Museum.

Survivors include son, Mike (Kandi) Caldwell of Whitestown; daughter-in-law, Karen Wyatt of Greenfield; sister, Thelma Jay of Carolina Shores, S.C.; four grandsons, Brett R. (Jean) Caldwell of Brighton, Mich., Matthew R. (Kelly) Caldwell of Pendleton, Dustin M. (Iva) Caldwell of Zionsville and Daren E. (Angela) Caldwell and wife, Angela of Plainfield; 10 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Curt Jay and Geoffrey Jay; and niece, Marcy Jay Bailey.

Mrs. Caldwell was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a son, Robert I. Caldwell; and a brother, Carl D. Engledow Jr.

Visitation is 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. David Wright officiating. Interment will follow services at Mts. Runn Cemetery in Zionsville.
