Marilyn S. Rowland

Marilyn Sue Rowland, 80, of Sheridan, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 22, 2014. She was born the daughter of Carmel and Lucy (McCarty) Merrill on Dec. 16, 1933, in Sheridan.

On Jan. 7, 1956, she married Charles B. Rowland I, who preceded her in death on April 8, 2003. Marilyn loved to cook, owning and operating her own restaurant for many years. She also loved gardening and reading, but most of all she was the best mom! She dearly loved her family and cherished every moment spent with each family member.

She was a very loving, kind, gentle and very giving mom. She was a 1951 graduate of Sheridan High School, and a graduate of Indiana Business College. She worked for AAA following graduation. She retired from the U.S. Customs Services, where she worked as an account technician. She was a member of the Noblesville Church of God.

Marilyn also enjoyed going to breakfast/lunch with her high school girlfriends, Wilma Newby, Norma Hobson, Phyllis Kouns, Carol Henderson and Phyllis Quick. She had so much fun reminiscing about old times and keeping abreast of everyone’s lives. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you Wilma for your calls, they meant a lot to mom.

She is survived by six children, Sandy (Chuck) Barrick and Bart (Donna) Rowland, all of Sheridan, Bob (Cindy) Rowland of Noblesville, Jack (Patricia) Rowland of Tipton, Kathy (Hugh) Bouse of Frankfort and Sara Rowland of Sheridan; nephew, Bill Beatty; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Mark) Smith, Joshua (Emily) Barrick, Brook (Mike) Peyton, Sadie Rowland, Colton Rowland, Jaclyn (Adam) Hill, Micah Rowland and Bradley Bouse; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, William and Kenneth Merrill; and a sister, Betty Merrill Smith.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Miller and Dr. John Lucia and their staff for the care they provided. Much gratitude and thanks to dialysis nurse, Kristy Rhea, for giving our mom the gift of doing home hemo dialysis by teaching us how to do the treatments. You are a wonderful nurse and are very special to all of us Kristy!Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
