Margaret H. Harris

Margaret Helen Harris, 97, of Sheridan, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Homewood Health Campus, Lebanon.

Margaret was born March 22, 1917, in Hamilton County, the daughter of the now late Oscar B. and Gladys (Dell) Thistlethwaite. She was a graduate of the Sheridan High School Class of 1935. She was a homemaker and assisted her late husband with farming. Margaret loved to garden and enjoyed being outside with her flowers and the beautiful butterflies that they attracted. She was an avid euchre player, but her true passion was her family.

Margaret was a member of the Sheridan First Christian Church and was a very active member of the CWF. She and her late husband were instrumental in organizing the youth fellowship (CYF) at the church and continued as youth leaders for many years. Margaret also was a member of the Symposium Club, the Terhune chapter of the Rebekahs Lodge and the Marion Township club of the Boone County Extension Homemakers.

On April 21, 1945, Margaret married Harvey O. Harris. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1978.

Survivors include her son, Rex (Anita) Harris of Bargersville; her daughter, Melanie (Dennis) Turner of Lebanon; one sister, Mildred G. Miller of Doylestown, Pa.; four grandchildren, Carrie (Mark) McIntire, Natalie Turner, Troy (Justine) Turner and Allison (Andy) Boyll; and seven great-grandchildren, Lydia, Caleb, Mariah, Evan and Nathan McIntire, and Austin and Ava Boyll.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Grayson “Bizz” Thistlethwaite; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle McIntire and Alivia Boyll.

Services were held June 3, at Kercheval Funeral Home in Sheridan. The Rev. V.J. Stover officiated. Burial was in Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Love Remains Program, c/o Joseph Maley Foundation, P.O. Box 681010, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
