Robert N. “Bob” Burnham

Robert N. “Bob” Burnham, 92, of Thorntown, passed away at his home Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 31, 1920, the son of T. Raymond Burnham and Goldie (Cowden) Burnham Fink.

He married Ruby Kuhn in 1942; she died in 1987. He married Patricia Jones Burnham in 1988; she survives.

Bob worked 30 1/2 years at Battelle Memorial Institute, Ohio, doing research and development as a welder. He then retired and moved to New Port Richy, Fla.

His hobbies included golf; he got a hole-in-one, of which he was very proud, at a Florida course. He also made clocks, many with a cypress backing. Bob loved bingo and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

He was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Florida and Thorntown Christian Church, Thorntown; Lebanon Senior Citizens; Thorntown Friends of the Library; and, in Florida, the Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a Moose lodge, where he was governor two times.

A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Bob served 2 1/2 years in England.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy; three stepchildren, Darletta Langston of Thorntown, Jim Jones of Florida, and Janice Antillon of California; grandchildren, Debbie, Robert and Steven DeVore, all of Florida; a great-grandson, Hunter; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; nephews, Ronald Barrett and Tom Barrett; and niece, Patty Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Louise Barrett; and a brother, Raymond, who died at age 2.

As were Bob’s wishes, his body was donated to I.U. for medical research.

A memorial service is planned for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Thorntown Christian Church, 125 W. Main St., Thorntown.

In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thorntown Christian Church, 125 W. Main St., Thorntown, IN 46071; or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, P.O. Box 78960, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8960.
