Dorothy Ione Salsbery

Mrs. Dorothy Ione Salsbery, 87, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Hickory Creek at Lebanon.

Dorothy was born March 8, 1926, in Noblesville, a daughter of the now late M. H. and Gertie Evelyn (Stephenson) Davis. Reared and educated in Sheridan, she was the salutatorian of her 1944 graduating class at Sheridan High School. She attended Indiana Business College and received a degree in 1946.

She married Omer B. Salsbery on Jan. 5, 1946, in Sheridan. Mr. Salsbery survives.

Dorothy worked for the Indiana Box Company in Indianapolis for two years. She then was a homemaker, wife on the farm, and mother for 10 years in Hamilton County. The family then moved to a farm north of Advance in 1960 when Omer became an employee of the Frontier Co-op in Boone County. Dorothy returned to work as a legal secretary for attorney Fremont Voris in Lebanon. She worked there for 26 years, before retiring in 1986. She remained active during her retirement as a volunteer for Witham Hospital for 22 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She not only enjoyed her family and friends, she also enjoyed traveling, golf, knitting, crocheting and making latch-hook rugs.

Dorothy was a member of Lebanon Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two children, Yvonne M. (Daryl) Keffer of Jamestown and Dean A. (Linda) Salsbery of  Winfield, Ala.; four grandchildren, Christina M. (John) Ball of Greenwood, Gregory L. Keffer of New York, N.Y., Tammy (Greg) Jones of Seymour and Brian (Pam) Eggeman of Seymour; four great-grandchildren, Megan Ball, Jacob Ball, and Heather Jones and Kyle Jones of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, Nathan Emery Davis; and three sisters, Annetta Alice Newby, Florence Elizabeth Durbin and Rosalie Evelyn Kincaid.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Harry Pitts officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.
