Edward M. Bragg

Mr. Edward Merl Bragg, 83, of rural Lebanon, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Sheridan on Nov. 8, 1929. He was a son of the now late Rosca M. and Vada Lulu (Stephenson) Bragg. Mr. Bragg graduated from Sheridan High School in 1948. He worked as a farm hand prior to his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country honorably during the Korean War, being discharged in 1954. He married Barbara June (Baker) Bragg on Aug. 18, 1951, in Boone County. Mrs. Bragg passed away on April 27, 2009. For 32 years, Mr. Bragg worked as an airline mechanic for U.S. Airways. He began his career in Indianapolis. He moved to Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1973, and moved to Indianapolis in 1980. He retired in the early 1990s. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He loved his family and his many grandchildren. Among other things, he particularly enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He had also served as a deacon and elder in several churches, the most recent church being Elizaville Christian Church. Mr. Bragg was a member of Elizaville Christian Church and the Sheridan Masonic Lodge. Survivors include five children, Mickie E. (Mary Kay) Bragg of Lebanon, Mary Ann (Glenn) Hicks of Thorntown, Laura L. Westart of Lebanon, Glenda M. (Samuel L. Jr.) Highland of Lebanon, and Gayle L. (Joe) Johnson of Lebanon; two sisters, Opal Kelley of Chesterfield and Ellen Kelly of Anderson; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; four brothers, Howard Bragg, Henry Bragg, Harry Bragg and Harold Bragg; a sister, Pauline Pierce; a granddaughter, Britanie Cecelia Thomas; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Jeffrey Johnson, Dalyce Craig and Jordan Shepherd. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Elizaville Christian Church, 5745 N. 500 E, Elizaville. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the church, with the Rev. Ed Roark, the Rev. Jim Kyle and Pastor Kevin Bragg officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association or to the Elizaville Christian Church. Online condolences may be made at www.myersmortuary.com.
