Pearl Orinda McDonald

— Mrs. Pearl Orinda McDonald, 91, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

Mrs. McDonald was born April 16, 1922, in Montgomery County, to the now late John Maurice and Fern Bell (Young) Vannice. She attended schools in Darlington and Thorntown, and graduated from Darlington High School in 1940.

She married Devon Robert McDonald on June 28, 1940, in Montgomery County. Mr. McDonald passed away on May 11, 1999.

 Mrs. McDonald began working as a waitress at Wheeler’s in Lebanon. She worked at the Sunset Motel and Thorntown Textile. In 1973, she and her son started the Knotty Pine Inn in Lebanon.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. McDonald enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a master gardener and also enjoyed cooking, sewing and working with stained glass.

Mrs. McDonald was a member of Lebanon Church of Christ and Rebekah Lodge No. 861 in Lebanon.

Survivors include three sons, Robert L. (Judy) McDonald of Darlington, John M. (Brenda) McDonald of Portage, Mich., and P. Douglas (Sheila) McDonald of Thorntown; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Scheffers, Kimberly (Michael) Warren, Michael (Tracie) McDonald, Patrick McDonald, Melissa McDonald, Chad (Lyndsy) McDonald, Lisa (Matt) Smith and Lori (Isaac) Sturgis; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a brother, Leroy Vannice; and a sister, Emma Lou Weliever.

Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Steve Jaggers officiating. Interment will follow at Dover Cemetery in Dover.
