Richard Charles Dawes, 75, of Colfax, passed away Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013, at his residence.
Richard was born in Clinton, N.Y., on Oct. 21, 1937, a son of the late Roy and Helen (O’Neal) Dawes. He attended schools in New York. Following school, he enlisted in the United State Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War.
On Oct. 26, 1957, he married Betty Sue (Bowles) Dawes in Bowling Green, Ky. Mrs. Dawes survives.
For many years Richard owned and operated his own trucking business, retiring in 2002.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed camping and flying his own airplane. For the last eight years, he loved wintering down in Florida.
Richard attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon, and AOPA.
Survivors include his wife, Betty S. Dawes of Colfax; three children, Roy T. Dawes of Advance, Patricia A. (Scott) Will of West Lafayette, and Sherry S. McDonald of Reno, Nev.; two sisters, Joan Dawes of Bristol, Va., and Jean (Vern) Drake of Bristol, Tenn.; brother, Tom (Dona) Dawes of New Hartford, N.Y., eight grandchildren, Scott R. Dawes of Colfax, Rachel (Matthew) Frere of Jamestown, Anthony Dawes of Advance, Cody Broshar, Dylan Broshar and Garrett Broshar, all of Jamestown, and Joel Will of West Lafayette; six great-grandchildren, Ben Dawes and Alex Dawes, both of Lebanon, and Jacob Frere, Mary Abney, Tyler Frere and Riley Frere, all of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Dawes; and a grandson, Carson Will.
A private family memorial service, with military rites, will be held at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, with Pastor Peggy Good officiating.
