Eddie Conway Carson McCoury Jr., of High Point, N.C., passed away Thursday, July 29, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Eddie was born Aug. 30, 1944, in Avery County, N.C., to the late Eddie Conway Carson McCoury Sr. and Anna Barbara Roth McCoury, the sixth of 10 children.
On June 15, 1962, he married Mona Sue Potter, who preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 1998. Eddie was also preceded in death by four siblings, Tommy McCoury, TY McCoury, David McCoury and Colleen McCoury Martincak.
Eddie was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Susan M. (Rick) Bennett of Summerfield, N.C.; sons, Eddie Conway Carson McCoury III and wife, Cindy, of Archdale, N.C., and James Patrick (Nell) McCoury of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Jessica Ann McCoury, Heather Elaine McCoury, Jonathan Tyler McCoury, Jameson Conway McCoury, Ewan McIver Foster, Christopher Scott Bennett, Emily Danielle Bennett and Ashley Nicole Bennett; five sisters, Rosa McCoury (John) King of Lebanon, Ind., Bobbie Ann McCoury Ward of Fayetteville, N.C., Mary McCoury (Roberto) Perez of High Point, N.C., Bertha McCoury (Dale) Young of Newland, N.C., and Sheila McCoury (James) Perry of Banner Elk, N.C.; and one aunt, Phyllis Richardson of Lebanon, Ind.
A service to celebrate Eddie’s life was held Friday, Aug. 2, in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Home, Archdale. The children invited family and friends for a covered dish gathering to continue the celebration of Eddie’s life with cards, games, stories, singing and fellowship on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Groome Inn in Greensboro.
