Kathaleen Essex

Mrs. Kathaleen Essex, 72, of Advance, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.

Kathaleen was born Nov. 4, 1940, in Vigo County, a daughter of the now late Ova and Isabelle (Archer) Wood. A longtime resident of Boone County, Kathaleen graduated from Whitestown High School in 1959.  

On Dec. 3, 1960, she married Leo Edward Essex in Whitestown. Mr. Essex survives.

Kathaleen was a devoted homemaker. For 11 years, she worked at the Granville Wells School as a custodian, and for a period of time she worked at Lynn Wright’s Restaurant on Highway 421.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Kathaleen enjoyed her kids and grandkids. Her hobbies centered around her family and included fishing and camping.

She was a member of Advance Community Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Leo E. Essex of Advance; five sons, Lee E. (companion, Carol) Essex of Danville, Bruce W. Essex of Advance, Danny E. (Rhonda) Essex of Thorntown, Jeff (Doris) Essex of Creve Coeur, Ill., and Darrin (Misty) Essex of Advance; three brothers, Dallas (Peggy) Wood of Lebanon, Tom (Pat) Wood of Kentucky and Wayne Wood of Lebanon; and 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Kathaleen was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Hunt, and a grandson, Jordan Essex.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Kyle Drown and Dan Hayden officiating. Interment will follow at Union Lutheran Cemetery in Boone County.
