Lloyd “Lewis” McCluskey

1941-2013

Mr. Lloyd “Lewis” McCluskey, 71, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Lebanon on May 17, 1941, Lewis was the son of the late Lloyd E. and Letha Areva (Reveal) McCluskey. He was a lifelong resident of Lebanon, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1959. Following school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in Orlando, Fla. He served his country honorably until 1964.

On Nov. 11, 1961, he married Janie Lynne Banta in Orlando. Mrs. McCluskey survives.

After his service in the military, Lewis returned to Lebanon, where he worked at Boone County Hardware for Hale Burgman. For a period of time he worked for the Boone County REMC in the office, and also was a groundman for the outdoor crew. He then went to work for Commercial Filters in Lebanon until his retirement. During retirement, he worked for Myers Mortuary for a number of years. He also worked as a yellow shirt at the Indianapolis 500 for 25 years.

As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved his family and took pride in his children and his grandson. In addition, he enjoyed golfing, football and NASCAR.   

Lewis was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Lebanon Jaycees and Sertoma Club of Lebanon.

Survivors include his wife, Janie L. McCluskey of Lebanon; three daughters, Sharon L. (Tom) Boyles of Pittsboro, and Susan M. McCluskey and Sandra J. (companion, Doug McClaine) McCluskey-Luper, all of Lebanon; one grandson, Colton Lewis DeBard of Lebanon; and brother-in-law, Tom (Pam) Banta of Sebring, Fla.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Jim Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
