Mrs. Martha Louise Byrkett Veatch, 92, of Lebanon, died Nov. 24, 2013, at Homewood Health Campus.
Martha was born July 22, 1921, in Whitestown, to Noah O. and Dyantha Wynkoop Byrkett. Both parents are deceased. She graduated from Whitestown High School in 1939. She married Carroll E. Veatch on June 30, 1939. Carroll passed away Feb. 8, 1986.
She and her husband farmed for several years in Boone County before moving to Zionsville area and working for Pittman-Moore-Dow Chemical for 40 years, retiring in 1982. She loved flowers, and had traveled extensively visiting all states except South Dakota and Nebraska. She had also been to Nova Scotia. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, quilting and crocheting.
Martha was a member of Golden K in Lebanon, a life member of Auxiliary Whitestown Post 410 American Legion, and Lebanon VFW Post 910. She was a member of the Whitestown Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons: Don L. and Judith Veatch of Zionsville, William and Sandra Veatch of Dover, and David and Connie Veatch of Lebanon; seven grandchildren: Craig and Angie Veatch, Kris Nolan, Jacob and Tim Veatch, Shelly Miller and Melissa Humphreys; 12 great-grandchildren she enjoyed very much; a sister Janice “Jan” Walker; two nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her father, Noah, a World War I Veteran, spent his last four years in her home. He was 98 years old when he passed away. She was also preceded in death by a son, John, who died at birth, and brother Noah Jr.
Family and friends will gather Friday, Nov. 29, for visitation from 11 a.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jim Hunter officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Martha will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
