Lonnie E. Workman

Evangelist Lonnie Edward Workman, 68, of Whitestown, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at his residence.

Lonnie was born July 12, 1945, in Chapmanville, W.

Va., a son of the now late Leonard and Louise (Stollings) Workman. He was raised and educated in Chapmanville, and graduated from Chapmanville High School in 1963.

On May 23, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol S. McCormick in Chapmanville. The couple was together for 49 1/2 years; she survives.

Lonnie was a former resident of Polk City, Fla. While there, he owned and operated Perfection Tool & Die in Lakeland, Fla., for 20 years. He moved back to Indiana in 2005.

He was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He was one of the first basketball coaches at the Lebanon Boys & Girls Club. He and his wife, Carol, brought Boys & Girls Club basketball to Zionsville, which led to the two current clubs there. He has coached Little League baseball, softball, football and AAU basketball. He coached high school basketball at Harvest Temple in Largo, Fla., as well as Sonrise Christian School in Lakeland. Lonnie was an evangelist and member of Lebanon Rock Church, under the covering of Pastor Matt Skiles.

Lonnie’s legacy is that of a tremendous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, leader, coach and friend to many.

Survivors include his wife, Carol S. Workman of Whitestown; three children, Timothy L. (Kelly) Workman of Cleveland, Tenn., Kimberly S. (Andy) Hixson of Odenton, Md., and Scott E. (Tina) Workman of Auburndale, Fla.; sister, Conetta (Bob) Casey of Nashville, Ind.; and ten grandchildren, Timothy Workman, Brittany Tucker, Briana Barrera-Hammil, Scott Workman II, Christian Hixson, Alexander Workman, Jazmine Workman, Nicholas Workman, Bailey Workman and Promises Hixson.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Genadine (Workman) Hood.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Matt Skiles officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
