---- — Mrs. Wilma Jane Benton, 75, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.

Wilma was born in Lebanon, on April 3, 1938, a daughter of the now late John Benjamin and Gertrude (West) Shirley.A lifelong resident of Lebanon, Wilma graduated from Lebanon High School in 1956. She then attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis, where she received her Private Secretarial Certificate.

On April 5, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, she was married to Clyde Autry Benton. Mr. Benton passed away on March 4, 2013.

Wilma was a secretary for various companies around the area. She was employed at Jones Burgess Insurance, Harman Insurance, Commercial Filters and Stewart-Warner Corporation. She worked for Monlan Corporation for 17 years, and most recently was working for Halfacre-Nester Plumbing and Heating.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She liked to read, work crossword puzzles and cross-stitch.

Wilma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lebanon.

Survivors include two children, Benjamin K. (Martha) Benton of Sudbury, Mass., and Brian Dean Benton of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Alex and Ethan Benton of Sudbury; brother, Everett E. “Peanut” Shirley of Lebanon; two sisters, Mary Lou Snider and Florence Belle Minor, both of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; an infant son, Brent Alyn Benton; a sister, Marjorie Ann Shirley; and a brother, Albert Lee Shirley.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Dr. Morris Jones officiating. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
