---- — Lester Earl Wilhoite, 84, of Lebanon, passed away at Peace River Regional Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla., on Jan. 18, 2014 surrounded by family. He was born on May 11, 1929 to Gilbert Campbell and Viola (Jarrett) Wilhoite. His parents preceded him in death.

Lester graduated from Whitestown High School in 1949. After serving in the United States Army, he married his sweetheart, Gladys Joyce Rybolt, at Whitestown Methodist Church on June 20, 1953, officiated by the Reverend Raymond Duff.A lifelong farmer, Lester also worked at the Boone County R.E.M.C. for 33 years. After retiring from farming, Lester enjoyed spending winters at his home in Port Charlotte.

Lester enjoyed and excelled in many sports, including horseshoes, go-karting, tractor pulling, boating, and water skiing. He was very active in the Masonic community, serving as Past Master during his 50-year membership in Boone Lodge #9. He also held honorary memberships with other lodges, was a 25-year member of the Order of the Amaranth and the Order of the Eastern Star and formerly the Scottish Rite.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle as well as a good friend to many. Lester is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Joyce, his son, Douglas Earl Wilhoite, grandson Aaron Wilhoite, grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Ryan and Krista Wilhoite, and great-granddaughter Emery Kay along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sons David Orville Wilhoite and Daryl Campbell Wilhoite; four sisters, Esther Stonehouse, Mildred Fultz, Martha Jean Fowler and Ruby Stringer; and three brothers, Walter, Byron and John Wilhoite.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Jan. 24, for visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Strawmyer and Drury Mortuary in Lebanon. Masonic Rites will immediately follow the funeral service. Burial will follow in Mts. Runn Cemetery.
