William J. "Bill" Ruddell

William “Bill” J. Ruddell, 70, of Bluffton, S.C., passed away on Oct. 19, 2013, while vacationing in New Mexico with family.

He was born in Lebanon, on May 30, 1943.

A 1961 graduate of Lebanon High School, he went on to Indiana University and graduated with a degree in business in 1965. While attending Indiana University he met his now late wife, Nancy Rhodes, and they married in 1966. Following graduation, Bill entered the United States Air Force and remained active until 1992, when he retired as a colonel at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio. Along the way he received his MBA from the University of Alabama. Following his military career, Bill went on to work for the Beavercreek (Ohio) school district. He and Nancy remained in Beavercreek until they both officially retired in 2005 and moved to Bluffton, S.C.

In Bluffton, Bill was an active member in his local Presbyterian Church and military officers association.

He is preceded in death by his parents, “Doc” and Margie Ruddell, and his wife of 47 years, Nancy (2013).

He is survived by his children, Jennifer Ruddell-Barclay of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeremy (Terri) Ruddell of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Sarah Helms of Fortville; and grandchildren, Reece Barclay, Jack Barclay, Cole Burke, Tessa Ruddell and Romey Ruddell. Finally, he is also survived by his and Nancy’s beloved miniature schnauzer, “Doc,” who has been sent to keep a close eye on his grandchildren.

The Rivera Family Funeral Home, Santa Fe, N.M., handled arrangements.
