Rev. Howard DeWayne Allen

On Oct. 11, 2013, the Rev. Howard DeWayne Allen, of Lebanon, died peacefully in his home, while surrounded by his friends and family.

Rev. Allen was a graduate of Garrett Theological Seminary. He served in the Indiana United Methodist Church Conference for 37 years, during which time he ministered at the following Indiana churches: Pence United Methodist Church; Judyville United Methodist Church; Salem Chapel United Methodist Church, LaPorte; Wayside United Methodist Church, Clinton; Princeton Faith United Methodist Church; Avon United Methodist Church; Nashville United Methodist Church; New Castle United Methodist Church; Danville United Methodist Church; Paoli United Methodist Church; and Linden United Methodist Church.

During these 37 years, Rev. Allen's ministry involved the Lions Club, Boy Scouts and Habitat for Humanity; missions to Haiti and West and Central Africa; and educational trips to Israel, Russia and Germany.

He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Betty Eppert Allen; daughters, Tammy Stuart of Lebanon, and Michelle Allen of Indianapolis; sons, John Greg Allen of Brighton, Mich., and Michael Allen of Canton, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Mary Allen of Brighton; son-in-law, James Stuart of Lebanon; sisters, Carolyn Bell of Lafayette, and Marlene Ingle of Ossian; and his 92-year-old mother, Violet Allen of Lebanon. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Chris Stuart, Sean Stuart, Gabriella Allen, Tyler Allen, Rileigh Allen Smith, Alicia Upton and Dustin Brown; and four great-grandchildren in Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 910 Fordice St., Lebanon. A time of sharing and celebration of life will be held for family and friends at 6 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of the church.

The Allen family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the loving care provided by Harbor Light Hospice, Indianapolis.
