Dale Riley Hamblen

— Mr. Dale Riley Hamblen, 71, of Thorntown, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

He was born on Oct. 11, 1941, in Lyford, the son of the now late Earl and Frances Fern (Adams) Hamblen.

He married Glenna R. Sheets on Dec. 23, 1970, in Hendricks County. They later divorced.

The Hamblen family lived in several communities before settling in Indianapolis, where Dale attended Indianapolis schools. He later enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably.

Mr. Hamblen eventually moved to Boone County and was a longtime resident. For 44 years he was a heavy equipment operator for Local #103 out of Indianapolis.

He was a devoted father, papaw and brother. He enjoyed stock and sprint car races, going to gun shows with his grandson and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Tia R. (Jeff) Wyant of Thorntown and Amy E. (John) Beard of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Levi Wyant, Emily Wyant, Cortney Vickery, Tommy Beard and Lane Beard; two brothers, Rick Hamblen and Bob Hamblen; sister, Earlene Matteson; many nieces and nephews; and good friends whom Dale enjoyed visiting with at area restaurants.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hamblen.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 Payne Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268.

Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, is entrusted with arrangements for cremation.
