Earnie Ray Spears, 74, of Lebanon, slipped away to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Earnie was born in Sod, W.Va., on May 6, 1939, to the now late Roy J. and Bessie (Pauley) Spears.
On Dec. 29, 1984, he married Janet (Lenz) Spears in Boone County; Janet survives.
Earnie came to Indiana in 1962, and worked for a number of years pouring concrete. Following his retirement from Waste Management, he repaired mowers and small engines as a means to keep busy.
He attended the Lebanon Wesleyan Church, which was a big part of his life. He loved living life to the fullest. He always enjoyed family get-togethers and loved watching and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed talking classic cars and other things with friends at Hardee’s almost every morning. Every year, he and his wife would travel to West Virginia to ride ATVs in the mountains.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Spears of Lebanon; son, Terry Lee Spears of Zion, Ill.; niece raised by him, Vickie Porter Herring of Indianapolis; two stepdaughters, Kathleen Staton (Nathen) Cook of Lebanon, and Kimberly Staton (Roger) Hancock of Crawfordsville; two stepsons, Kevin (Karen) Staton of West Lafayette, and Kenneth Staton of Marion; two sisters, Lorraine Spears (Donald) Thompson of Bargersville, and Louise Spears (Walter) Vanderpool of Stow, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Earnie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ralph G. Spears; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Leyanna Boram Staton.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Dr. Morris Jones and the Rev. Howard Barefoot officiating. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
