Cathy Joan Nichols

Cathy Joan Nichols, age 60, Lebanon, passed away peacefully at her home to be with her Lord after a long determined fight against ALS on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. She was surrounded by her adoring husband, family, and friends.

Born in Camp Atterbury Army/Naval Hospital in Franklin on July 18, 1952, Cathy was the daughter of Marilyn (Clark) Maddox Shull and the late Joseph Maddox.

She graduated from Granville Wells High School in 1970.

Briefly, Cathy was married to Sam Smith and they had one daughter, Stacy Sue. On Sept. 2, 1973, in Hartsville, Tennessee, she was married to Tim Ross Nichols, and they had one son, Steven Ross.

Cathy worked for Herff Jones for 25-plus years before retiring. Following her retirement, she worked for Century 21/AAA Mortgage for three years. She volunteered at the Crisis Pregnancy Center for seven years and most recently, she volunteered at the Caring Center and Classic Reruns shop for three years before the disease took control and she had to stay at home.

She was an active member of First Community Church in Lebanon from 1990 to 2001. At that time she and her husband went to Covenant Fellowship in Advance to start a new church plant. She attended there until 2011 when she could no longer get out.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Tim, of 39 years; a daughter, Stacy Sue McKee; and a son, Steven Ross Nichols and wife, Tara of Noblesville.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to her six grandchildren and one great-grandson; Steven Henry, Reese McKee, Madison McKee, Caleb Nichols, Abigail Nichols, Isabella Nichols, and Silas Henry.

Cathy is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Marilyn and Jack Shull of Lebanon; and two brothers, Jack Shull of Lebanon, and David Shull of Carmel.

Funeral services are to be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, with the Rev. Dennis Woodard.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon.

Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ALS Foundation of Indianapolis, 6525 East 82nd Street, Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
