Mr. Newton Henry Rude Jr., 86, of Sheridan, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation at Parkwood, Lebanon.
Mr. Rude was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Winamac, the son of the now late Newton H. Rude Sr. and Geneva Clorinda (DePoy) Rude.
He married Clara Ruth Freeman on Aug. 19, 1944, in Pulaski County. Mrs. Rude passed away on June 13, 2012.
While living in Winamac, Mr. Rude farmed for two years. He then moved to Mishawaka. For a period of time, the Rude family operated a restaurant in Headley. In 1961, the family moved to Boone County. Mr. Rude was a Union Iron Worker with Local No. 22 in Indianapolis, until his retirement in 1981. He also farmed until 1989.
He dedicated his life to his family and loved to care for them. He enjoyed gardening in his free time.
Mr. Rude was a member of Winamac Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Russ R. (Vickie) Rude and Roy R. (Sharleen) Rude, all of Sheridan; one brother, Lawrence (Delores “Bunny”) Rude of Logansport; one sister, Leona Good of Rochester; three granddaughters, Kate (Steve) Fisher of Sheridan, Becky (Jason) Ogle of Carmel and Amy Rude of Lafayette; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Rude and Harold Rude; two sisters, Delores Guise and Arlene Stienman; and a grandson, Terry Rude.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Chaplain David Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
