Mrs. Mildred Marie “Midge” Harlos, 95, of Lebanon, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.
Midge was born May 8, 1917, in Boone County, on a farm that her parents obtained through a land grant. She was the daughter of the now late Asa Clarence and Della Elzina (Roth) Warren. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1933 and then graduated from The Approved University of Beauty Culture in Indianapolis.
As a master hair and cosmetologist, Midge was self-employed at her home near North Salem for several years. She also worked for the state as a beauty salon inspector.
On Sept. 26, 1940, Midge married Glen Lavere Harlos. After 64 years of marriage, Mr. Harlos passed away Jan. 5, 2005.
After marrying, the couple farmed in Putnam County near North Salem until Mr. Harlos retired in 1984. They moved to Lebanon about 1986. Prior to Mr. Harlos’ passing, the couple sold over 100 acres of land to the Hendricks County Park Division, now known as the McCloud Nature Park.
Midge was a devoted wife. She enjoyed crafts, hobbies and flower gardening. She enjoyed living at Crown Pointe, where she was very active and considered all residents and staff as part of her loving family. Through the Friendly Visitor’s Program, she became connected with Jeannie Brandenburg. What began as a casual friendship grew into a loving relationship. Jeannie fulfilled the role of a daughter to Midge. They shared many good times.
She was a member of Lebanon Christian Church, Roachdale Order of the Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary in Lebanon and Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
