A new way to lose weight, no fooling
By Ned C. Boatright
Time Magazine reported this week what might be a major breakthrough for those of us who are either trying to control our body weight or would like to lose a lot of weight without resorting to bariatric surgery or the lap band procedure. The new findings were announced by Dr. Alan Hirsch at the annual meeting of the Endocrine’s Society in San Francisco. Dr. Hirsch has been engaged in testing a concept that you may recall learning in biology class. There you should have learned that smell and taste are connected. As you eat, the two senses work together to stimulate an area of the brain called the “satiety center,” which tells your body when it’s time to stop eating.
At the heart of the Hirsch’s program is a patent-pending technology 25 years in the making. Sometimes referred to as “sprinkles,” his Sensa Tastants are flavor-enhancers that use your senses of smell and taste as allies in weight loss. Sprinkling the tiny Tastants crystals on your food causes you to feel fuller faster by stimulating the part of your brain that tells your body it’s time to stop eating.
His 2006 research study involving 2,436 men and women, ages 19 to 55, agreed to use Tastants for a period of six months, sprinkling them on every slice of pizza, every bowl of ice cream, every slice of apple and every bowl of cereal. The results were impressive. The people who completed the study lost an average of 30.5 pounds, which represented nearly 15 percent of their body weight.
If you’ve tried dieting in the past, you know how difficult it is to lose weight and keep it off. Denying yourself the foods that bring you the most satisfaction is unnatural and unrealistic. When you feel unsatisfied and deprived, it is impossible to succeed. At some point, you will give in, overeat, possibly even binge, and gain the weight back. This is the cycle commonly known as “yo-yo dieting.”
With Hirsch’s approach there are no food restrictions, so you don’t have to deal with any intense food cravings or feelings of starvation. Sensa merely helps you eat less of the foods you love and gain greater satisfaction from smaller portions. As a result, you take in fewer calories, making it easier to lose weight. Because there are no food restrictions, you don’t have to deal with any intense food cravings or feelings of starvation. There are no meetings or exercise programs and you can continue to eat at your favorite restaurants. Sensa Tastants do not directly affect your digestive system. Instead, they use your sense of smell and taste to safely, and naturally trigger your body’s “feel full” response.

I go into the Indianapolis’ Borders or Barnes-Noble book stores three or four times a week. Wherever you browse in these stores you encounter hundreds of titles that tell you about the diet that’s finally the one that’s right for you. I’ve looked into all of them. Hirsch’s program makes great sense to me so I’ve decided to give it a try. I went to the Internet and “Googled” Sensa and found Sensa.com. There I was able to order a 30 day “starter” supply of Tastants for $59.95. You might consider doing the same, and if you do let’s compare the results. Maybe I can finally lose those 10 pounds I haven’t been able to take off. The simple reason is, I’m addicted to Donaldson’s chocolates and Dairy Queen’s milk shakes.
