Keith Quinn (left) and John Day begin laying a new strip of asphalt while Gilberto Perez uses a small compactor to tamp down pavement at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds Tuesday morning. About 125 parking spaces west of the 4-H Pavilion (background) will be available in time for the 4-H Fair, which begins this week. Parking will be first-come, first-served, Hedge said. Another 10 handicapped-accessible spaces are being added, said fair board spokesman Ken Hedge. The parking lot’s base uses recycled asphalt from the Lebanon Street department; Valenti-Held Corp. contributed the earth-moving. Lime Specialists prepped the base, all at no charge, Hedge said. The contributions saved about $135,000, Hedge said. A special section on the fair is in Wednesday's Reporter.
