Veterans, Zionsville residents and town officials look on Saturday as the Park and Recreation Board dedicated the American Legion Trail Crossing. The newest Zionsville park commemorates the service of veterans, both from Zionsville and around the country. The American Legion donated the land at the northeast corner of Bloor Lane and Ford Road 10 years ago. In 2004 Judy Rice’s design was accepted by the parks board, which waited until money was available to fund the park. The park is enclosed by a circle of limestone, and features four limestone columns on the inside that read: Sacrifice, freedom, patriotism, and courage. The park also has a path that winds throughout the enclosed area. American Limestone donated the material for the design. Parks board member Jeff Glass led the dedication ceremony, and helped cut the ribbon to open the park.
