Surprise party for Caldwell

By Drew Stone/The Lebanon Reporter

Lebanon Boone County voter registration worker Jean Caldwell was surprised Wednesday morning as she went to the second floor of the Boone County Courthouse. There to surprise her was nearly the entire courthouse staff, and her family and friends to celebrate Caldwell’s 85th birthday.

“I can hardly believe it,” Caldwell said about the large, surprise reception. “It’s just wonderful.”

Caldwell served as Boone County’s clerk from 1978 to 1981 and has worked in some capacity in the courthouse since. Currently, Caldwell said, she is getting bags of absentee votes ready to be sent out.

“She does so much work around here,” Boone County Clerk Penny Bogan said. “Her knowledge is invaluable.”
