State OKs design for CR 300 South
Staff report
Lebanon —
It will cost Boone County about $722,000 to buy land to widen County Road 300 South (146th Street) from U.S. 421 to the Hamilton County line, Highway Superintendent Tom Kouns said Monday.
About $700,000 of that is for actual land purchase; another $22,000 is for the cost of the procedure, Kouns said.
Boone is coordinating the road work with Hamilton County, which is planning to widen 146th Street to four lanes.
Kouns said Boone County will upgrade the road to a two-lane highway. Construction could begin next fall or in spring 2009. Boone County will need almost $1.7 million for its share of the project (including the cost of the land), Kouns said.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has approved the design, he said. Bids for the work could be awarded next spring.
Subdivision developers along 146th Street were required to furnish right-of-way for the road, Kouns said. The county must buy another 22 parcels, he said.
ALSO MONDAY, the commissioners approved closing the Scotland Church Bridge, on Lost Road (CR 200 E) over Sugar Creek, for a wedding on July 14.
Sally Hillier said her daughter wants to have the ceremony on the bridge. While the bridge will be closed officially for 45 minutes, Hiller said she thought, “it’ll take only 20 minutes.”
