It took the Lebanon Tigers ‘bats a while to get going Wednesday night in their Sagamore Conference softball battle with Crawfordsville.

But once they did, a close game quickly turned into a blowout.

Class 3A No. 13 Lebanon scored 15 of their 16 runs in the final two innings and routed Crawfordsville 16-1 to improve to 6-2 and 2-1 in the Sagamore Conference.

“We got here a little late and I’m not sure we were fully warmed-up,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “It did take a while to get the bats going. One time through we hit the ball decent, then got flat again. We got a break on a call at third base and the gates kind of opened up and we started hitting the ball. We got more relaxed.”

The game was tied at 1 after five innings.

Makayla Copeland started the sixth off with a walk, and Payton Hollis followed with a perfect bunt down the first base line for a hit.

Copeland raced toward third and appeared to be out on the play, but was called safe.
