The two Boone County golfers playing in the 77th Annual State Finals at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course Tuesday both had decent starts to the two-day tournament.
Zionsville’s Adam Wood is among three co-leaders after round one, shooting a 4-under 68 tying Devin Jenkins of Floyd Central and Kyle Meihofer of Valparaiso.
“I am pretty happy with it overall,” Wood said. “The way I was striking the ball, it was a good score. But I was putting really well, so I am pleased with the round, but know if I struck it a little better I could have posted a really good score.”
Wood said it is a good feeling to be in the lead after round one, knowing that he could even do better in the round.
He said he knows what adjustments need to be made to improve his score.
“It is always good to post a solid number and not play your best,” Wood said. “I think I have good control with my wedges and short irons, it is just a matter of controlling the distance.”
Wood birdied the second hole and after three-straight pars, eagled the par-5 sixth hole to move to 3-under.
He bogeyed the ninth, but birdied the 10th and 12th to move to 4-under. He dropped to 3-under after bogeying the 15th, but came back with a birdie on the 16th before ending with two pars.
Wood was happy with the way he was able to rebound after his bogeys.
