The Zionsville girls track team took second place at the Noblesville sectional, Tuesday, but more importantly, the Lady Eagles will send competitors to the regional round in 11 events. Lebanon finished 10th overall, as Westfield claimed the sectional title.
Caroline Bostwick set the tone early for her Lady Eagles, finishing second in the 100-meter dash (13.93 seconds), and taking second in the 200-meter dash (26.84 seconds). All top-four finishers will advance to next week’s regional meet.
Zionsville’s Cara Haselrig took seventh place in the 100 (13.82 seconds), while Lebanon’s Katrina Wiseman finished sixth in the 200 (28.00 seconds).
Success in the sprints continued in the 400-meter dash, as Zionsville’s Lauren Pifer advanced to regionals with a fourth-place finish at 1:00.91. Her teammate Ellen Wiebke grabbed sixth place at 1:02.63.
In the 800-meter run, Zionsville’s Caitlin Engel picked up a fourth-place finish at 2:22.80. Her teammate Amanda Regele was right behind her in seventh at 2:29.58. Lebanon’s Brea Blackstone (2:56.69) and Lauryn Quick (2:57.85) finished 17th and 18, respectively.
Katie Conrad finished second for the Lady Eagles in the 3200-meter run, clocking in at 11:37.83. Kara Conflenti of Zionsville came in 12th at 12:44.66.
Hadley Stuart made the finals in both hurdles events, finishing second in the 300-meter (48.47 seconds), and taking eighth in the 100-meter (18.30 seconds). Her Zionsville teammate Elizabeth Neel finished third in the 300-meter, coming in at 48.77. Lebanon’s Amber Stonebraker finished 14th in the 300-meter hurdles at 54.29.
All three Zionsville relay teams are advancing to regionals. The 400-meter relay team of Haselrig, Rachel Booze, Erin Goode, and Bostwick finished in third place at 51.04 seconds. Lebanon’s team of Kailee Comage, Whitney Breedlove, Casey Herron, and Wiseman finished eighth (54.15).
Zionsville’s 1600-meter relay team of Wiebke, Pifer, Stuart, and Bostwick finished runner-up at 4:06.92. The Lady Tigers’ team of Stonebraker, Breedlove, Quick, and Comage took eighth (4:38.49). In the 3200-meter relay, Zionsville’s team of Frances Einterz, Kelly Miller, Regele, and Engel took fourth place at 9:55.43.
Stuart struck again in the long jump, putting up a fourth-place distance of 15 feet, 9.50 inches. Miller took ninth at 15-01.00.
In the 1600-meter run, Calesse Cardosi posted a seventh-place finish for the Lady Eagles at 5:42.19, while Lebanon’s Katie Bohannon took 14th at 6:10.16.
In the high jump competition, Lebanon’s Hollin Milakovic and Zionsville’s Pifer tied for 12th place with a leap of 4-08.00. Stephanie Henthorn placed ninth in the pole vault competition with a jump of 8-00.00.
Zionsville’s Emma Tokar finished 12th in the shot put event at 29-00.50, while Lebanon’s Caitlin Mcdonald was 15th at 27-05.00. Zionsville’s Kelly Coval finished 16th (25-00.50).
Coval came back for a fifth place effort in the discus, putting up a throw of 103-11.00. Her teammate Tokar came in 11th (83-09.50) and Mcdonald of Lebanon was 12th (80-05.50).
Postseason action moves on at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the regional meet. The athletes moving on from the Noblesville sectional will compete at the West Lafayette regional.
