Brandy Woody advances to 2 regional events

The Western Boone girls track team began the postseason with Tuesday’s sectionals at South Putnam. The Lady Stars finished ninth among the 13 area teams, as Brownsburg took the team sectional title.
WeBo was unable to put a runner in the 100-meter dash finals, but Brandy Woody turned it around in the 200-meter dash. She finished seventh overall at 27.31 seconds.
Then in the 400-meter dash, Woody posted one of her two regional-qualifying performances. She finished in third place at 59.37 seconds. She also qualified for regionals in the high jump, leaping four feet, 11 inches.
Callie Dale gave Western Boone a 10th-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:43.28), and then earned sixth-place points in the 1600-meter run at 4:46.66.
Sara Solomon was impressive in the hurdles events. She finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles finals, clocking in at 17.36 seconds. Then in the 300-meter hurdles, Solomon took eighth place (51.74 seconds).
All three Lady Star relay teams earned points in the team competition. The 400-meter relay team of Solomon, Lindsey Woody, Laine Bennington, and Kandise Kyle finished seventh at 53.72 seconds.
In the 1600-meter relay, Solomon, Diedre Bowden, Kyle, and Brandy Woody took sixth place with a finishing time of 4:30.73. Then the 3200-meter relay team of Abby Emmert, Ashley Dunahee, Lindsey Woody, and Dale came in sixth at 11:52.00.
Lindsey Woody contributed a 10th-place finish in the long jump, flying a distance of 14-00.25. Dunahee finished 21st at 11-06.50.
Two Lady Stars placed in the discus throw, as well. Taylor Guinn finished 22nd at 61-08.50, and Toni Potts was 23rd with a throw of 60-07.00.
There was one sectional record broken on the day. Southmont’s Creasy Clauser ran the 800-meter in 2:15.53, breaking the 17-year-old record of 2:17.00.
The postseason continues at 6 p.m. Tuesday with regionals. The athletes moving on from the South Putnam sectional will compete at the West Lafayette regional.
