Lady Stars honor Biesecker with 11-0 win

By Jim Johnson/Sports Correspondent

Dover It was senior night at Western Boone where the Star’s softball team honored their lone senior, Jennifer Biesecker. The underclassmen gave Biesecker the best Senior Night imaginable — an 11-0 win in five innings over Danville in Sagamore Conference action.

"We have a very, very strong team and I think that we’re unified," Biesecker said. "One of the greatest experience, I think, this season was coming out with the win, 11-0."

The Stars improve to 10-10 on the season and 7-7 in conference play.

Western Boone honored Biesecker before the game and after the win, Western Boone coach Beth Dohogne said that Biesecker does everything that a senior is supposed to do.

"She makes sure the team is ready to go and she leads by example," Dohogne said. "She gets done what needs to be done. She’s a good leader in season and out of season."

On Senior Night, Western Boone brought not only solid defense, but exceptional hitting as well.

After defeating the Warriors, 13-11 in eight innings earlier this week with 34 hits, they came back with a solid 14 hits on Thursday.

"Our bats were on," Western Boone coach Beth Dohogne said. "

Western Boone had three players go 3-for-3 on offense. Jordan Hoskins, Sydney Wiley and Biesecker.

"Our bats were on," Dohogne said. " So we have those kids going 3-for-3 and that didn’t even cover our homerun hitters."

Krystal White and Cari Clanton each hit a home run.

Hoskins had three singles, Wiley hit a triple, and Biesecker came away with two doubles.

Western Boone got things rolling in the first inning and took an early 8-0 lead to set the tone for the game.

"It wasn’t anything that Danville did bad," Dohogne said. "We just came out with the bats. We definetly had our bats going tonight."

White hit a double to left to get things going and Hoskins came to bad and hit a single, scoring White and putting the Stars on the board, 1-0.

Biesecker hit a single to left and with Hoskins and Biesecker on base, Clanton came to bat and hit a homerun to give Western Boone a 4-0 lead.

Brittney Martin hit a single up the middle and Katrina Smith singled to center. Wiley came to bat and hit her triple, scoring Martin and Smith with Western Boone taking a 6-0 lead.

White returned to bat and hit a homerun, scoring Wiley and taking an 8-0 advantage over Danville.

"I’ve never coached a game with two home runs in one inning," Dohogne said.

Wiley pitched all five innings for the Stars with five strikeouts, one walk, and four hits.

They travel to West Lafayette tonight and will compete in sectionals at Southmont on Tuesday. They received the bye and will play Danville at 7:30 p.m.
