Zachary chooses Indiana

Sheridan —
Despite being two weeks prior to the final season in his prep career, Sheridan quarterback Nick Zachary decided the time was right to make his college decision.
The All-State quarterback announced Thursday night that he will remain close to home and play for the Indiana Hoosiers and head coach Bill Lynch.
“I just really liked the campus and they have a great coaching staff,” Zachary said. “Coach Lynch is a great guy and I felt at home when I went down to look at the school.”
Zachary said he knew as early as the end of last school year that he wanted to attend Indiana, but he was just waiting for the offer to come. The offer came Tuesday night over the phone with the official letter of intent coming Wednesday.
Zachary notified Lynch of his decision Thursday night.
“I knew I wanted to study business or communications and Indiana has strong programs in both of those areas,” Zachary said. “As soon as I knew I could play football there as well, it wasn’t a hard decision.”
Zachary said he chose Indiana over Central Michigan, Western Kentucky and Purdue.
The 6-foot-1-inch Zachary was an all-state quarterback for the Blackhawks last season rushing for 2,182 yards and 42 touchdowns, while completing 39-of-87 passes for 835 yards and five touchdowns.
He also played defense and special teams, intercepting seven passes, while playing safety and averaging nearly 50 yards per kickoff return.
Despite his success at the position, Zachary said he would not be playing quarterback for the Hoosiers.
“Coach Lynch didn’t know exactly where they are going to play me, but it will most likely be at either wide receiver or defensive back,” Zachary said. “All I know is that I won’t be playing quarterback.”
Zachary said now that his college decision has been made, he is focused on bringing the fourth straight 1A state title to Sheridan.
He said there is no reason the Blackhawks can’t have continued success this season.
“We definitely can be as successful as we have in the past,” Zachary said. “We just need to get everyone on the same page, we haven’t had a full camp yet with everyone in attendance, so we need to get everyone out here, and once they are back, we should be able to continue the success we have been having on the field.
