Fort Wayne airport reports passenger growth

FORT WAYNE (AP) — Fort Wayne International Airport officials say it saw a 5 percent increase in passenger traffic last year.

Airport officials say it had nearly 593,000 arriving and departing passengers in 2013, about 28,000 more than the year before.

The airport now offers nonstop daily flights to Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Dallas, with business travelers making up about 70 percent its business. Airport spokeswoman Jessica Miller tells The Journal Gazette (http://bit.ly/1cQfgT4 ) that officials are trying to respond to the request of business travelers for flights to New York and Washington.

Airport director Scott Hinderman says the increase number of passengers shows Fort Wayne's airfares are becoming more competitive with other airports in the region such as Indianapolis.
